Intuition Meditation

Dhyana

  1. When you want to understand something or make a decision, ask for guidance, and then experiment with following the guidance you receive. Here is a process to use that can really make a difference in your ability to hear what your deeper Self wants to tell you.
  2. Spend some time formulating your question, getting as clear as possible about it. Write it down. (This is important-the act of writing concretizes your question or issue.) You could start by asking for help in resolving a creative problem, problematic relationship, or living situation. You could ask for insight about your practice or about an inner tendency that disturbs you.
  3. Sit comfortably with your back erect but not rigid and your eyes closed. Hold the question in your mind. Say it to yourself a few times and notice the feelings that arise when you do. Notice any thoughts that come up, including resistance to the process. Jot them down if they seem important or relevant.
  4. Use the rhythm of the breath as an anchor. Keep your attention on the breath until the mind relaxes and becomes quieter.
  5. Sink your attention deeper. You can do this by focusing on the heart center (in the middle of the chest) or on the belly center (three inches below the navel, deep inside the body). Or you can use a visualization: Imagine yourself descending a staircase into a quiet cave, moving step-by-step until you find yourself enclosed in quiet.
  6. In this quiet space, ask the sage within you, the person of wisdom who resides in your deepest core, to be present. Or, if there is a particular deity form or teacher or sage you respect, you might ask that being to be present. Alternatively, you might simply have the feeling that you are asking guidance from the universe, the Tao, the source of all. Understand that it is enough to ask that inner wisdom be present.
  7. Ask your question. Then wait silently, without expectation or discouragement, to see what emerges. Remember that insight does not always come in words. It might come as a feeling, an image, or something said by another person. Also, it might not come the moment you ask for it. Intuition emerges in its own time. Once you have seeded the question, be attentive during the next 24 to 48 hours, because answers to your question will arise.
  8. As insights come, write them down. Hold each one in your mind and let it percolate. See what comes up and note the feelings. You may be drawn to interpreting the insight, but it is also enough just to hold it in your consciousness. As you do, it will create shifts in consciousness all by itself. Note that if your insight feels judgmental, punishing, or blaming, it is probably not coming from your deepest source.
  9. Finally, think of a step you can take to put your insight into action. Here is where the real experiment begins. The only way to learn to follow your intuitive guidance is to try it and be very aware of the results.

A Musical Instrument

Elizabeth Barrett Browning

By Simran Khurana, About.com Guide

Poem lyrics of A Musical Instrument by Elizabeth Barrett Browning.

What was he doing, the great god Pan,

Down in the reeds by the river?

Spreading ruin and scattering ban,

Splashing and paddling with hoofs of a goat,

And breaking the golden lilies afloat

With the dragon-fly on the river.

He tore out a reed, the great god Pan,

From the deep cool bed of the river:

The limpid water turbidly ran,

And the broken lilies a-dying lay,

And the dragon-fly had fled away,

Ere he brought it out of the river.

High on the shore sat the great god Pan

While turbidly flowed the river;

And hacked and hewed as a great god can,

With his hard bleak steel at the patient reed,

Till there was not a sign of the leaf indeed

To prove it fresh from the river.

He cut it short, did the great god Pan,

(How tall it stood in the river!)

Then drew the pith, like the heart of a man,

Steadily from the outside ring,

And notched the poor dry empty thing

In holes, as he sat by the river.

"This is the way," laughed the great god Pan

(Laughed while he sat by the river),

"The only way, since gods began

To make sweet music, they could succeed."

Then, dropping his mouth to a hole in the reed,

He blew in power by the river.

Sweet, sweet, sweet, O Pan!

Piercing sweet by the river!

Blinding sweet, O great god Pan!

The sun on the hill forgot to die,

And the lilies revived, and the dragon-fly

Came back to dream on the river.

Yet half a beast is the great god Pan,

To laugh as he sits by the river,

Making a poet out of a man:

The true gods sigh for the cost and pain, -

For the reed which grows nevermore again

As a reed with the reeds in the river.

Kate Bush Wuthering Heights

Out on the wiley, windy moors

We'd roll and fall in green.

You had a temper like my jealousy:

Too hot, too greedy.

How could you leave me,

When I needed to possess you?

I hated you. I loved you, too.

Bad dreams in the night.

They told me I was going to lose the fight,

Leave behind my wuthering, wuthering

Wuthering Heights.

Heathcliff, it's me--Cathy.

Come home. I'm so cold!

Let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, it's me--Cathy.

Come home. I'm so cold!

Let me in-a-your window.

Ooh, it gets dark! It gets lonely,

On the other side from you.

I pine a lot. I find the lot

Falls through without you.

I'm coming back, love.

Cruel Heathcliff, my one dream,

My only master.

Too long I roam in the night.

I'm coming back to his side, to put it right.

I'm coming home to wuthering, wuthering,

Wuthering Heights,

Heathcliff, it's me--Cathy.

Come home. I'm so cold!

Let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, it's me--Cathy.

Come home. I'm so cold!

Let me in-a-your window.

Ooh! Let me have it.

Let me grab your soul away.

Ooh! Let me have it.

Let me grab your soul away.

You know it's me--Cathy!

Heathcliff, it's me--Cathy.

Come home. I'm so cold!

Let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, it's me--Cathy.

Come home. I'm so cold!

Let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, it's me--Cathy.

Come home. I'm so cold!

http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/2494

Anatomical Focus: Thighs, Groins, Abdomen, Chest, Lungs, Shoulders, Armpits, Neck

Therapeutic Applications: Sciatica

Contraindications and Cautions: Heart problems

Beginner's Tip: To improve balance practice this pose facing a wall. Press the big toe of the front foot against the wall and stretch your arms up, finger tips to the wall.

  1. From Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward-Facing Dog), exhale and step your right foot forward between your hands, aligning the right knee over the heel. Then lower your left knee to the floor and, keeping the right knee fixed in place, slide the left back until you feel a comfortable stretch in the left front thigh and groin. Turn the top of your left foot to the floor.
  2. Inhale and lift your torso to upright. As you do, sweep your arms out to the sides and up, perpendicular to the floor. Draw the tailbone down toward the floor and lift your pubic bone toward your navel. Lift your chest from the firmness of your shoulder blades against the back torso.
  3. Take your head back and look up, being careful not to jam the back of your neck. Reach your pinkies toward the ceiling. Hold for a minute, exhale your torso back to the right thigh and your hands to the floor, and turn your back toes under. With another exhale, lift your left knee off the floor and step back to Adho Mukha Svanasana. Repeat with the left foot forward for the same length of time.

The Birth of Love

William Wordsworth

By Simran Khurana, About.com Guide

When Love was born of heavenly line,

What dire intrigues disturbed Cythera's joy!

Till Venus cried, "A mother's heart is mine;

None but myself shall nurse my boy,"

But, infant as he was, the child

In that divine embrace enchanted lay;

And, by the beauty of the vase beguiled,

Forgot the beverage -- and pined away.

"And must my offspring languish in my sight?"

(Alive to all a mother's pain,

The Queen of Beauty thus her court addressed)

"No: Let the most discreet of all my train

Receive him to her breast:

Think all, he is the God of young delight."

Then tenderness with candour joined,

And gaiety the charming office sought;

Nor even delicacy stayed behind:

But none of those fair Graces brought

Wherewith to nurse the child -- and still he pined.

Some fond hearts to compliance seemed inclined;

But she had surely spoiled the boy:

And sad experience forbade a thought

On the wild Goddess of voluptuous joy.

Long undecided lay th' important choice,

Till of the beauteous court, at length, a voice

Pronounced the name of hope: -- The conscious child

Stretched forth his little arms, and smiled.

'Tis said enjoyment (who averred

The charge belonged to her alone)

Jealous that hope had been preferred

Laid snares to make the babe her own.

Of innocence the garb she took,

The blushing mien and downcast look;

And came her services to proffer:

And Hope (what has not Hope believed!)

By that seducing air deceived,

Accepted of the offer.

It happened that, to sleep inclined,

Deluded hope: for one short hour

To that false innocence's power

Her little charge consigned.

The Goddess then her lap with sweetmeats filled

And gave, in handfuls gave, the treacherous store:

A wild delirium first the infant thrilled;

But soon upon her breast he sunk -- to wake no more.

How Soon Is Now lyrics

LYRICS TO THE "CHARMED" THEME SONG

I am the son

And the heir

Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar

I am the son and the heir

Of nothing in particular

You shut your mouth

How can you say

I go about things the wrong way?

I am Human and I need to be loved

Just like everybody else does

I am the son

And the heir

Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar

I am the son and the heir

Of nothing in particular

You shut your mouth

How can you say

I go about things the wrong way?

I am Human and I need to be loved

Just like everybody else does

There's a club, if you'd like to go

You could meet somebody who really loves you

So you go, and you stand on your own

And you leave on your own

And you go home, and you cry

And you want to die

When you say it's gonna happen "now"

Well, when exactly do you mean?

See I've already waited too long

And all my hope is gone

You shut your mouth

How can you say

I go about things the wrong way?

I am Human and I need to be loved

Just like everybody else does

Yoga

http://hatha-yoga.suite101.com/article.cfm/yoga-practice-routine-for-office-workers

The two forces of mind and prana maintain the rhythm of life and consciousness. Everything in the universe is evolving. Matter in its ultimate form is energy. The goal of yoga is to turn the body into solid energy. – Hatha Yoga Pradipika

Namaste means "the divinity within me salutes the divinity within you."

Benefits:
  • Stretches the chest and lungs, shoulders and neck, belly, groins (psoas)
  • Strengthens the shoulders and arms, and the muscles of the back
  • Strengthens and stretches the thighs, calves, and ankles
Contraindications and Cautions:
  • High blood pressure
  • Heart problems
  • Students with shoulder problems should keep their raised arms parallel (or slightly wider than parallel) to each other.
  • Students with neck problems should keep their head in a neutral position and not look up at the hands.

Warrior Pose (Virabhadrasana)

  1. Stand in Tadasana (Mountain Pose). With an exhale, step or lightly jump your feet 31/2 to 4 feet apart. Raise your arms perpendicular to the floor (and parallel to each other), and reach actively through the little-finger sides of the hands toward the ceiling. Firm your scapulas against your back and draw them down toward the coccyx.
  2. Turn your left foot in 45 to 60 degrees to the right and your right foot out 90 degrees to the right. Align the right heel with the left heel. Exhale and rotate your torso to the right, squaring the front of your pelvis as much as possible with the front edge of your mat. As the left hip point turns forward, press the head of the left femur back to ground the heel. Lengthen your coccyx toward the floor, and arch your upper torso back slightly.
  3. With your left heel firmly anchored to the floor, exhale and bend your right knee over the right ankle so the shin is perpendicular to the floor. More flexible students should align their right thigh parallel to the floor.
  4. Reach strongly through your arms, lifting the ribcage away from the pelvis. As you ground down through the back foot, feel a lift that runs up the back leg, across the belly and chest, and up into the arms. If possible, bring the palms together. Spread the palms against each other and reach a little higher through the pinky-sides of the hands. Keep your head in a neutral position, gazing forward, or tilt it back and look up at your thumbs.
  5. Stay for 30 seconds to a minute. To come up, inhale, press the back heel firmly into the floor and reach up through the arms, straightening the right knee. Turn the feet forward and release the arms with an exhalation, or keep them extended upward for more challenge. Take a few breaths, then turn the feet to the left and repeat for the same length. When you're finished return to Tadasana.

Horizon’s Place And Time Meet by Cara E. Moore Chapbook
Poem from this collection http://www.gaias-garden.co.uk/library/ACheerfulCanvas.html

By Simran Khurana, About.com Guide

Poem lyrics of De Profundis by Elizabeth Barrett Browning.

I

The face, which, duly as the sun,
Rose up for me with life begun,
To mark all bright hours of the day
With hourly love, is dimmed away-
And yet my days go on, go on.

II

The tongue which, like a stream, could run
Smooth music from the roughest stone,
And every morning with 'Good day'
Make each day good, is hushed away,
And yet my days go on, go on.

III

The heart which, like a staff, was one
For mine to lean and rest upon,
The strongest on the longest day
With steadfast love, is caught away,
And yet my days go on, go on.

IV

And cold before my summer's done,
And deaf in Nature's general tune,
And fallen too low for special fear,
And here, with hope no longer here,
While the tears drop, my days go on.

V

The world goes whispering to its own,
'This anguish pierces to the bone;'
And tender friends go sighing round,
'What love can ever cure this wound ?'
My days go on, my days go on.

VI

The past rolls forward on the sun
And makes all night. O dreams begun,
Not to be ended! Ended bliss,
And life that will not end in this!
My days go on, my days go on.

VII

Breath freezes on my lips to moan:
As one alone, once not alone,
I sit and knock at Nature's door,
Heart-bare, heart-hungry, very poor,
Whose desolated days go on.

VIII

I knock and cry, - Undone, undone!
Is there no help, no comfort, - none?
No gleaning in the wide wheat plains
Where others drive their loaded wains?
My vacant days go on, go on.

IX

This Nature, though the snows be down,
Thinks kindly of the bird of June:
The little red hip on the tree
Is ripe for such. What is for me,
Whose days so winterly go on?

X

No bird am I, to sing in June,
And dare not ask an equal boon.
Good nests and berries red are Nature's
To give away to better creatures, -
And yet my days go on, go on.

XI

I ask less kindness to be done, -
Only to loose these pilgrim shoon,
(Too early worn and grimed) with sweet
Cool deadly touch to these tired feet.
Till days go out which now go on.

XII

Only to lift the turf unmown
From off the earth where it has grown,
Some cubit-space, and say 'Behold,
Creep in, poor Heart, beneath that fold,
Forgetting how the days go on.'

Title : I'm With You
Album : Let Go
Genre : Pop

I'm standing on the bridge
I'm waiting in the dark
I thought that you'd be here by now
there's nothing but the rain
No footsteps on the ground
I'm listening but there's no sound

Isn't anyone trying to find me
Won't somebody come take me home

It's a damn cold night
Trying to figure out this life
Won't you take me by the hand
Take me somewhere new
I don't know who you are but I
I'm with you
I’m with you.

I'm looking for a place
I'm searching for a face
Is anybody here I know
Cause nothing is going right
And everything is a mess
And noone likes to be alone

Isn't anyone trying to find me
Won't somebody come take me home

It's a damn cold night
Trying to figure out this life
Won't you take me by the hand
Take me somewhere new
I don't know who you are but I
I'm with you
I'm with you

Oh why is everything so confusing
Maybe I'm just out of my mind

Ye-ah, Ye-ah, Ye-ah, Ye-ah, Yeah ....

It's a damn cold night
Trying to figure out this life
Won't you take me by the hand
Take me somewhere new
I don't know who you are but I
I'm with you
I'm with you

Take me by the hand
Take me somewhere new
I don't know who you are but I
I'm with you
I'm with you

Take me by the hand
Take me somewhere new
I don’t know who you are but I
I’m with You
I’m with you
I’m with you.

Benefits

  • Stretches the spine, shoulders, and hamstrings
  • Stimulates abdominal organs such as the liver and kidneys
  • Improves digestion

Revolved Head-to-Knee Pose (Parivrtta Janu Sirsasana)

  1. Sit on the floor with your torso upright and your legs wide. Bend your left knee and snug the heel into your left groin. Then slightly bend your right knee and slide the heel a few inches toward the right buttock.
  2. Exhale, lean to the right, and press the back of your right shoulder against the inside of your right knee. Lay your right forearm on the floor inside your right leg, palm facing up. Lengthen the right side of your torso along the inside of the right thigh. Turn your right palm toward the inside edge of the foot and take hold of it, thumb on the top of the foot, fingers on the sole.
  3. Remember, the pose is anchored by the femur bone of the left leg. Press the left femur firmly to the floor, as you inhale and slowly extend your right knee. Keep the back of your shoulder connected to the inner knee as you extend it; you'll find that your torso is drawn out by the straightening knee. When your knee is straight, twist your torso toward the ceiling.
  4. Inhale your left arm straight up toward the ceiling, lean it back slightly, and then, with another inhale, sweep it behind your left ear and take hold of the outside edge of the right foot. Press the elbows away from each other, using them like a crank to help twist the upper torso further. Turn your head to look at the ceiling.
  5. Hold for a minute. To come out, first untwist your torso, and without coming to upright, sweep it to the left midway between the legs. Then inhale and lift to an upright position. Remember not to come up directly from the twisted position.. Repeat these steps to the other side for the same length of time.

Follow-Up Poses

Parivrtta Janu Sirsasana (Revolved Head-to-Knee Pose) is typically practiced as part of a sitting forward bend sequence.

 When You Are Old

William Butler Yeats

By Simran Khurana, About.com Guide

When you are old and grey and full of sleep,

And nodding by the fire, take down this book,

And slowly read, and dream of the soft look

Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

How many loved your moments of glad grace,

And loved your beauty with love false or true,

But one man loved the pilgrim Soul in you,

And loved the sorrows of your changing face;

And bending down beside the glowing bars,

Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled

And paced upon the mountains overhead

And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

Thank You

Written by D Armstrong/P Herman

My tea's gone cold, I'm wondering why I got out of bed at all

The morning rain clouds up my window and I can't see at all

And even if I could it'd all be grey, but your picture on my wall

It reminds me that it's not so bad

It's not so bad

I drank too much last night, got bills to pay

My head just feels in pain

I missed the bus and there'll be hell today

I'm late for work again and even if I'm there

They'll all imply that I might not last the day

And then you call me and it's not so bad

It's not so bad and

I want to thank you (I, I)

For giving me the best day of my life

(Ohh, of my life)

Oh just to be with you (ohhh, ohhh)

Is having the best day of my life

(Ohh, of my life)

Push the door, I'm home at last and I'm soaking through and through

Then you handed me a towel and all I see is you

And even if my house falls down now, I wouldn't have a clue

Because you're near me and

I want to thank you (I, I)

For giving me the best day of my life

(Ohh, of my life)

Oh just to be with you (ohhh, ohhh)

Is having the best day of my life

(Ohh, of my life)

I want to thank you (I, I)

For giving me the best day of my life

(Ohh, of my life)

Oh just to be with you (ohhh, ohhh)

Is having the best day of my life

Herbalism

Clove (Syzygium aromaticum)

Essential oil is used as an anodyne (painkiller) for dental emergencies, Caution: Do not use long term as it can cause gum damage. Carminative. Clove oil is used for acne, pimples, severe burns, skin irritations and to reduce the sensitiveness of skin. Used internally as a tea and topically as an oil for hypotonic muscles, including for multiple sclerosis.

Yoga

The two forces of mind and prana maintain the rhythm of life and consciousness. Everything in the universe is evolving. Matter in its ultimate form is energy. The goal of yoga is to turn the body into solid energy. – Hatha Yoga Pradipika

Namaste means "the divinity within me salutes the divinity within you."

Padangusthasana (Big Toe Pose)
  • Calms the brain and helps relieve stress, anxiety and mild
  • Stimulates the liver and kidneys
  • Stretches the hamstrings and calves
  • Strengthens the thighs
  • Improves digestion
  • Helps relieve the symptoms of menopause
  • Helps relieve headache and insomnia
Caution: Avoid this pose with lower back or neck injuries
  1. Stand upright with your inner feet parallel and about six inches apart. Contract your front thigh muscles to lift your kneecaps. Keeping your legs completely straight, exhale and bend forward from your hip joints, moving your torso and head as one unit.
  2. Slide the index and middle fingers of each hand between the big toes and the second toes. Then curl those fingers under and grip the big toes firmly, wrapping the thumbs around the other two fingers to secure the wrap. Press your toes down against your fingers. (If you can't reach your toes without overly rounding your back, pass a strap under the ball of each foot and hold the straps.)
  3. With an inhalation, lift your torso as if you were going to stand up again, straightening your elbows. Lengthen your front torso, and on the next exhale, lift your sitting bones. Depending on your flexibility, your lower back will hollow to a greater or lesser degree. As you do this, release your hamstrings and hollow your lower belly (below your navel) as well, lightly lifting it toward the back of your pelvis.
  4. Lift the top of your sternum as high as you can, but take care not to lift your head so far that you compress the back of your neck. Keep your forehead relaxed.
  5. For the next few inhalations, lift your torso strongly as you continue to actively contract your front thighs; on each successive exhalation, strongly lift your sitting bones as you consciously relax your hamstrings. As you do this, deepen the hollow in your lower back.
  6. Finally exhale, bend your elbows out to the sides, pull up on your toes, lengthen the front and sides of your torso, and gently lower into the forward bend.
  7. If you have very long hamstrings, you can draw your forehead toward your shins. But if your hamstrings are short, it's better to focus on keeping the front torso long. Hunching into a forward bend isn't safe for your lower back and does nothing to lengthen your hamstrings.
  8. Hold the final position for one minute. Then release your toes, bring your hands to your hips, and re-lengthen your front torso. With an inhale, swing your torso and head as a single unit back to upright.
Poetry

Horizon’s Place And Time Meet by Cara E. Moore Chapbook
Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1850)

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday’s
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood’s faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints,—I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life!—and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

I'm so high. I can hear heaven.
I'm so high. I can hear heaven.
Oh but heaven, no heaven don’t hear me.

And they say that a hero could save us.
I’m not gonna stand here and wait.
I'll hold to the wings of the eagles.
Watch as we all fly away.

Someone told me that love would all save us.
But how can that be, look what love gave us.
A world full of killing, n' blood-spilling
that world never came.

And they say that a hero could save us.
I’m not gonna stand here and wait.
I'll hold to the wings of the eagles.
Watch as we all fly away. hi-igh-igh!

Now that the world isn't ending,
it's love that I’m sending to you.
It isn’t the love of a hero,
and that’s why I fear it won’t do.

And they say that a hero could save us.
I’m not gonna stand here and wait.
I'll hold to the wings of the eagles.
Watch as we all fly away.

And they're watching us
(Watching Us)
They're watching us
(Watching Us)
As we all fly away.

And they're watching us
(Watching us)
They're watching us
(Watching us)
As we all fly away,

(Yeah)
Yeah.

And they're watching us
(Watching us)
They're watching us
(Watching us)
As we all fly away

(Yeah, yeah. Whoa-oh.)
