Crystal Healing
Herkimer Diamond – Powerful Detoxifier, wear over pancreas for Diabetes. Good for meditation. Found in Herkimer County, New York state. Amplifier used by healers. Dispels darkness, balances energy flows.
Herbalism
Pectoral – remedy for the lungs
Elecampane (Inula helenium)
Actions: Expectorant, anti-tussive, diaphoretic, stomachic, anti-bacterial
Tonic for the lung, especially useful for bronchitis or emphysema, useful also in asthma and bronchitic asthma, bitter principle useful for stimulate for digestion and appetite.
Combines well with White Horehound, Coltsfoot, Mullein, Yarrow for respiratory problems.
Dosage: Pour a cup of cold water onto 1 tsp. shredded root, let stand 8-10 hours, heat up and take hot three times a day. Tincture: Take 1-2 ml x 3 a day.
Blood Root (Sanguinaria canadensis)
Action: Expectorant, anti-spasmodic, emetic, cathartic, antiseptic, cardio-active, topical irritant.
Main use in treatment of bronchitis, asthma, croup and laryngitis.
Dosage: put 1 tsp of rhizome in a cup of cold water, bring to boil and leave to infuse for 10 minutes x 3 a day. Tincture: Take 2-4 ml of the tincture three times a day.
Yoga
Yogis believe purity of body encourages purity of mind. Below are listed two “Shad Kriyas” (Cleansing Techniques)
Steady Gazing – Tratak
Place candle at arm’s length away at eye level, gaze at the flame without blinking for 1-3 minutes. Eyes will water clearing eyes and tear ducts. Close eyes and picture flame at a point between eyebrows. Tratak improves eyesight and concentration, useful as a preliminary exercise for meditation.
Nasal Cleansing – Neti
Neti cleanses the nose, nasal passages, sinus cavities. This technique helps to counteract effects of pollution, dust and pollen. Beneficial to people with Asthma, allergies and respiratory problems. Use neti jug, add ½ teaspoon of sea salt in a cup of lukewarm tap water.

Peridot – Cleansing, Refreshing, Invigorating, removes toxins from body. Combats negative train of thought. Strengthens personal identity, helps let go of past. Enhances natural healing processes, use with a grounding stone base of throat, one by heart, one near each kidney. Releases stress.
Herbalism
Lady’s mantle (Alchemilla vulgaris)
Actions: Astringent, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, vulnerary. Long tradition of use for “women’s complaints”, eases period pains and excessive bleeding, also aides in the changes of the menopause, can be used internally in diarrhea, and externally for cuts and wounds. Dosage: 2 teaspoons to a cup of water, steep 10-15 minutes, drink x 3 a day.
False Unicorn Root (Chamaelirium luteum)
Action: Uterine tonic, diuretic, anthelmintic, emetic. Tonic and strengthener of reproductive system. Also beneficial for men. normalizes hormones. Helpful to prevent miscarriage, (can be drunk in larger quantities for this purpose) eases vomiting in pregnancy. (Caution: large doses can cause vomiting). Dosage put 1-2 teaspoons of root in a cup of water, simmer gently, 10 to 15 minutes. Drink x 3 a day. Tincture take 2-4 ml of tincture x 3 a day.
Yoga
The Crow (Kakasana)
Strengthens the arms, wrists, and shoulders. Increases flexibility. Stretches, and lubricates joints, tendons, ligaments of the upper body. Expands the chest and increases breathing capacity. Revitalizes nerves and muscles of hands, wrists, and forearms. Prepares chest and arms for any kind of strenuous work. Develops power of concentration, nourishes mental poise and awareness. Encourages feeling of inner balance. Prepares the mind for meditation.

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, I
n hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

And mamma in her ’kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap,

Healing
Pearl – Regulates glandular functions, assimilation of nutrients, balances emotions, increases tolerance, energizes sacral chakra, reduces, worry, anxiety, frustration, helps focus on who we are. To ease lower back pain, place pearl at sacral chakra, black tourmaline above head, below feet, lodestone at the base of neck. To release stress worry, or overcome addiction place pearl at solar plexus, clear quartz above head, smoky quartz or other grounding stone at feet.

Nervine, anti-spasmodic, diaphoretic, diuretic, mild astringent.
Renowned prophylactic against development against arteriosclerosis, hypertension, relaxing properties useful in treatment of some migraines, feverish colds and flu. Combines with hops for nervous tension, mistletoe and hawthorn for raised blood pressure and with elderflower in the common cold.
Dosage: pour a cup of boiling water onto 1 teaspoonful of blossoms and leave to infuse for 10 minutes three times a day.

Title of the Song: Hark the Herald Angels Sing
Author: Charles Wesley (1707-1788), younger brother of John Wesley. Charles was a hymn writer and a poet, also known as one of the poeple who began the Methodist movement in the Church of England. The said song appeared in 1739 in a book called Hymns and Sacred Poems.
Interesting Fact: To celebrate the invention of the printing press, Felix Mendelssohn composed a cantata in 1840 called Festgesang or "Festival Song". The melody of Mendelssohn's cantata was then used by William H. Cummings and adapted it to the lyrics of Wesley's "Hark the Herald Angels Sing".

Title of the Song: Hark the Herald Angels Sing
Author: Charles Wesley (1707-1788), younger brother of John Wesley. Charles was a hymn writer and a poet, also known as one of the poeple who began the Methodist movement in the Church of England. The said song appeared in 1739 in a book called Hymns and Sacred Poems.
Interesting Fact: To celebrate the invention of the printing press, Felix Mendelssohn composed a cantata in 1840 called Festgesang or "Festival Song". The melody of Mendelssohn's cantata was then used by William H. Cummings and adapted it to the lyrics of Wesley's "Hark the Herald Angels Sing".

Herbalism
Damiana (Tunera aphrodisiaca) Dried leaves and stems. Action: nerve tonic, anti-depressant, urinary antiseptic, laxative. Strengthens nervous system. Traditional aphrodisiac, tonic for central and hormonal system. Useful anti-depressant, for anxiety, strengthens male system. Dosage: Pour one cup boiling water onto 1 teaspoonful of dried leaves, infuse 10-15 minutes x 3 a day.
Mugwort (Artemisia vugaris) Leaves or root. Action Bitter tonic, stimulant, nervine tonic, emmenagogue (aids normal menstrual flow). Digestive stimulant, aids in depression, eases tension. Dosage: pour cup of boiling water onto 1-2 teaspoons onto dried herb and leave, infuse 10-15 minutes in a covered container x 3 a day. Is used to flavour aperitive drinks. Tinctures 1-4 ml x 3 a day.

Enhances concentration and perseverance. Crystal Healing
Gold – Strengthens immune system, stabilizes subtle electrical system. Boosts wealth, health, abundance. Place on areas needing healing. Useful as a gem essence. Place on heart chakra surrounded by clear quartz points to amplify infusion of life energy. Enhances self-confidence.
Herbalism
Motherwort – (Leonurus cardiac) Aerial parts used. Actions: Sedative, emmenagogue, antispadomic, cardiac tonic. Useful for stimulation of delayed or suppressed menstruation, especially if caused by anxiety or tension. Useful relaxing tonic for aiding in menopausal changes. Excellent tonic for heart to strengthen without straining, specifically for over-rapid heart beat or palpitations. Dosage: pour a cup of boiling water onto 1-2 tsp of dried herb and leave to infuse for 10-15 minutes. Drink 3 times a day, tincture 1-4 ml three times a day.
Hawthorn Berries – (Crataegus oxyacanthoides), Ripe fruits used. Actions: Cardiac tonic, hypotensive Stabilizes heart, either by stimulating or depressing its activity whichever is needed in a gentle way. Useful for treating varicose veins and ulcers. For high blood pressure and circulatory system can be combined with Lime Blossom, Mistletoe, and Yarrow. Dosage: Pour a cup of boiling water onto 2 teaspoons of the berries and infuse for 20 minutes. This should be drunk three times a day over a long period.

The Forward Bend – Paschimothanasana Massages abdominal organs, tones digestive organs, relieves constipation, counteracts obesity and enlargement of spleen and liver, regulates pancreatic function, valuable for people with diabetes and hypoglycaemia, mobilizes joints, increases elasticity of lumbar spine, relieves compression of the spine and sciatica, strengthens and stretches hamstrings. Enhances concentration and mental endurance. Invigorates mind and controls many nervous complaints. Balances the prana and establishes “youth”.

Crystal Healing
Garnet – Base Chakra. Speeds up healing process. Can be used with clear quartz healing wands for this purpose. Energizing, warming, good against cold, sluggishness and for improved circulation.
Herbalism
Bitters enhance the liver and digestive processes. If bitterness is disguised by sugar completely, the beneficial effects no longer occur, often used in tonics.
Gentian (Gentiana lutea) Bitter, gastric stimulant, sialagogue,( stimulates the secretion of saliva from the salivary glands) cholagogue (stimulates the flow of bile from the liver). Useful for dyspepsia and flatulence, stimulates digestion. Dosage put ½ tsp of shredded root in a cup of water and boil for 5 minutes, drunk warm 15-30 minutes before meals, or any time when acute stomach pains from feeling of fullness in stomach. Tincture: 1-4 ml of tincture three times a day.
Rue (Ruta graveolens) Warning: Herb and the oil of rue should be avoided during pregnancy Actions: anti-spasmodic, emmenagogue, (herbs that stimulate blood flow in the pelvic area and uterus) anti-tussive, herbs that suppress the body's urge to cough. Mainly used to regulate menstrual periods, used to bring on suppressed menses. Used to relax smooth muscles in digestive system, and stopping spasm of spasmodic coughs, lowers elevated blood pressure. Fresh leaf can be chewed to relieve tension headaches, ease palpitations and other anxiety problems. Dosage pour a cup of boiling water onto 1-2 tsp of dried her and leave to infuse for 10-15 minutes drunk x 3 a day. Tincture 1-4 ml x 3 a day

Benefits stiffness in cervical, thoracic and lumbar regions, increasing nerve impulse and blood circulation in these areas. Gives natural massage to shoulders and neck, corrects rounded shoulders, increases capacity of the lungs, helps relieve asthma and other respiratory problems, energizes the parathyroid glands, stimulates and tones pituitary gland, pineal gland, regulates moods and emotions, relieves stress and mental agitation, increases prana to the neck and shoulder region, relieves pranic blocks from lung, stomach, and spleen meridians.

Black Tourmaline – Grounding, Protecting, Realigns, Root Chakra, soothes and settles bones and muscles. Black Tourmaline Crystal Grid is an intensive cleansing and protective grid used to clear long-standing negative energy and to repair tears in the auric field. Useful for grounding and stabilizing. (Eight tourmaline crystals, one at crown of the head, one by right ear, one by left elbow and wrist, one by right wrist, and one above this position, one by left ankle and one at base of feet, these placement form a criss-cross pattern across the body). Raises lowered blood pressure to normal, aphrodisiac, Dosage: ½ teaspoon of powdered root in cup of water, bring to boil, simmer gently for 10 minutes, drink x 3 daily.
Alternative – herbs that gradually restore the proper function of the body, increase wellbeing and energy.
Burdock (Alterative, diuretic, Bitter)
Latin: Arctium Lappa Used for Skin conditions, dry and scaly, psoriasis, rheumatic conditions. Dosage: Decoction 1 tsp of the root in a cup of water, bring to boil and simmer for 10 -15 minutes x 3 times a day. Tincture take 2-4 ml tincture three times a day.

The Cobra (Bhujangasana) "The Gerunda Samhitanotes says this asana increased the bodily heat and destroys diseases”. This posture puts gentle pressure on the abdomen, massages all organs, helps relieves many utero-ovarine and menstrual problems, stretches the thoracic region and expands the rib cage, bringing relief from asthma, increases flexibility, the arching of the spine rejuvenates spinal nerves and brings a rich blood supply. Mentally this postures demands considerable concentration and strengthens this facility. Pranic flow to the lungs, stomach, kidney, urinary bladder an spleen meridians, produces body heat.

Clear Quartz is the crystal associated with the Crown Chakra and our connection to the divine. It is known as the “Master healer” and is used to align the chakras and for meditation. A crystal point drawn away from the feet counter clockwise helps to “pull the pain out” of this area. Like the amethyst points, crystal points are placed on each side of the site of the pain to concentrate the healing energy to this site. Crystal Healing
Amethyst is a purple crystal associated with the Brow or Third Eye Chakra. This Chakra is associated with life direction and seeing where we are headed. Developing this Chakra also enhances psychic abilities. Amethyst is an excellent pain reliever. Taking two Amethyst points and focusing them on each side of the site of pain helps to relieve the pain. A headache amethyst crystal grid consists of four amethyst crystal points two points pointing towards the chin in the neck area and two facing downwards in the brow area. Amethyst is also a favorite crystal in meditation with its association with spiritual matters.

Charting your progress in meditation

Do not abruptly change your way of life. Begin to evolve bit by bit, thus developing your willpower.
Keep a spiritual diary, it may prove to be an eye-opener. It is a simple practical aid to help you to be regular in your practice and to make the most of limited time available.
Make a daily routine and stick to it.
Nightly, just before going to bed, review what you have done that day. Keep the spiritual diary for six months and compare your progress.
Remember the regularity and sincerity are the most important secrets to success.
Only you can evaluate whether you are making progress. There are no objective tests or guidelines. No-one else can tell you this; it is completely subjective.
Do your body and mind seem to be shedding a kind of dullness or heaviness?
Do you feel more peaceful, more happy with your yourself, and less prone to emotional outburst? Are serenity of mind and a sense of deep-seated contentment starting to manifest themselves?
“We experience a new view of the universe, a vision of unity, happiness, harmony and inner peace. Negative tendencies vanish, and the mind becomes steady. Meditation brings freedom from fear of death, which is seen as a doorway to a new name and form. People who meditate regularly tend to develop magnetic and dynamic personalities, cheerfulness, powerful speech, lustrous eyes, physical health, and boundless energy. Others draw strength from such people and feel elevated in their presence. Meditation is only possible when all mental modifications (thought waves) have been stilled, and with this comes mental peace.

Sodalite is a blue crystal associated with the Throat Chakra. It helps regulates the glands, the throat area and emotionally helps ease grief and helps with communication. When having to speak publically or when you want to express yourself with more focus, wear sodalite or lapis, another blue stone.

(fresh leaves of tree)
Strong, anti-microbial oil, inhalation, direct skin application for chicken pox, cold sores, shingles, insect repellent. Diuretic, muscular sprain, rheumatoid arthritis, applied as rub for respiratory infection. Very strong, use sparingly. Useful as air spray in sick rooms. Useful in bringing high temperatures down (cold compress) monitor carefully to prevent shock.
Sweet Fennel
Latin: Foeniculum vulgate
(Seed of plant)
Carminative, laxative, eases wind, hiccoughs, indigestion, colic, massage oil for cellulitis
Galactagogue, (improves milk flow) useful for menopause. Folklore, used to prevent evil eye, hung over doorway. Phototoxic, not to be used on sensitive skin. Useful for treating Gout, alcohol poisoning.
Expectorant, useful in massage rubs on abdomen. Lower back massage for flatulence and consitipation. Tea useful for diarrhea, colic, appetite stimulant.
Yoga
How to Meditate
Choose an area in your home to be used only for meditation. With regular practice, your meditation space will become charged with a powerful positive energy.
Set aside a specific time of day for meditation, most effective times are dawn and dusk.
Begin by sitting for meditation for 20 minutes daily, gradually increase your time to one hour.
Consciously regulate the breath, begin with a few minutes of deep breathing to bring a fresh supply of oxygen to the brain., inhale for 3 seconds and exhale for 3 seconds, this regulates the flow of prana within the body.
Focus your attention inwards, withdraw your attention from all outside objects.
Select a point of concentration within yourself, either a chakra point, Anja chakra, between the eyebrows (intellectual centre) or Anahata chakra, heart centre, for those of a more emotional nature. Do not change point of focus.
Focus the mind on a neutral or uplifting object or sound, such as a mantra, repeat it mentally as you breathe in and out.
Regular repetition of a mantra will purify the mind. After a time, the sound merges with thought.
With practice the duality of ego-consciousness disappears and the super conscious state of Samadhi is reached
In Samadhi, the knower, knowledge and the known becomes one and is the super conscious experience reached by mystics and saints.

Select a point of concentration within yourself, either a chakra point, Anja chakra, between the eyebrows (intellectual centre) or Anahata chakra, heart centre, for those of a more emotional nature. Do not change point of focus.
Focus the mind on a neutral or uplifting object or sound, such as a mantra, repeat it mentally as you breathe in and out.
Regular repetition of a mantra will purify the mind. After a time, the sound merges with thought.
With practice the duality of ego-consciousness disappears and the super conscious state of Samadhi is reached
In Samadhi, the knower, knowledge and the known becomes one and is the super conscious experience reached by mystics and saints.

Tiger's Eye and Citrine are the crystal associated with the Solar Plexus Chakra. This Chakra is the centre of self-empowerment and the digesive system. Tiger's Eye is a protection stone and was used as a talisman against evil eye. Citrine repeals negativity and is used to bring abundance. Merchants keep a cluster of Citrine in their cash register to bring wealth.

This last week in Yoga class we did a meditation at the end which we were told could be disconcerting. The roles we have in our lives are not permanent, we may at one time be a wife, a mother, a daughter, have a certain job. It was all an illusion and that could be freeing. We need to have a core identity of who we are to function, but if we could acknowledge the fleeting nature of these roles it could be freeing.
This made me think of one of my yoga assignments I had for my Yoga teacher training. I had trouble distinquishing, unconscious, subconcious and conscious. Like it is the conscious mind that filters out things from the subconscious mind (not the unconscious mind, where there is no interaction going on that we are aware of). We wouldn't be able to process every impression, thought, feeling or attitude at once, we need to filter these interactions. It is not impossible to realize that life is an illusion, but if you don't live in this illusion, where will are you going to live? I wondered. One way of looking at it is, if things are not permanent, you can approach each day with a open heart, you don't have to hold onto unwanted hurts, because they too are an illusion, in the big scheme of the collective consciousness that we draw inspiration and understanding from, they just don't matter in the long term.

I attended the Gower Rock Festival last weekend. It was almost rained out on the Friday, they were using pushbrooms to push the water down the drains and sandbagging. When we arrived and saw the water, we saw some people in a pickup and asked if the Festival was cancelled. "No, of course not, Rock Fesitivals are suppose to be muddy."

Crystal Healing
Carnelian and the Sacral Chakra – Carnelian (orange crystal) is used to strengthen the Sacral Chakra which covers the reproductive organs, kidneys and lower back as well as the process of Creativity. The beautiful aspect of Carnelian is that it aspires to be greater than itself and is a powerful healing crystal; it uses its energy to charge up other crystals if stored together।
Herbalism
Anti-catarrhal – herbs that help remove excess catarrhal in sinus area।
Elder- (Sambucus nigra), bark, flowers, berries, leaves, leaves used for bruises, sprains, wounds, and chilblains, tumours। Elder flowers, treatment of colds and influenza. (hayfever, sinusitis. Catarrhal deafness). Elder berries useful in rheumatism. Infusion, pour a cup of boiling water onto 2 teaspoons full of dried/fresh blossoms, infuse 10 minutes, drink x 3 day.
Peppermint (Mentha piperita) inhibits mucous secretion because of its menthol component। Relaxing effect on visceral muscles, anti-flatulent properties, relieves intestinal colic। Mild anesthetic to stomach wall, relieves nausea, vomiting, ulcerative colitis, Croh’s disease। This herb is used in treatment of fevers, colds, influenza। Inhalant, nasal catarrh. Migraine headaches, associated with the digestion, nervine, acts as a tonic, easing anxiety, hysteria. Relieves painful periods.
Yoga
I went for my Practitioner Workshop day with the BSY last Friday with instructions to take my Yoga mat and wear comfortable clothes। We started out with a yoga session, the we each had to “instruct” the class on two asanas. The afternoon was spent on practical information needed to set up a class. Each of the students were from different parts of the county, it was interesting to see what plans they had for their classes and how much there is to learn about Yoga (it could take a life time and be time well-spent).

The Root Chakra, designated red, (black or red crystals are used)is the physical chakra dealing with safety, physical health, grounding. Garnet is a protection stone, (can be used to boost a clear crystal wand in healing) and Red Jasper is a physically nuturing stone. Haemitite is a shiny gray black stone that is good at repelling negativity and good for circulation and aches and pains.
